- Insights gained from my interviews regarding current advocacy efforts and needs in my area of interest within the field of early childhood.
The first person I interview was Patricia Hudson (Developmental Therapist). Insights I gained was the Erickson Institute conducts medical diagnostic evaluations to identify children 0-3 years of age with developmental delays, in speech, cognition, social-emotional, language and self-help. Also Child and Family Connections provide free/sliding scale fee screening for special needs children 0-3 years of age. My next interview was a primary grade teacher (Lucille White). I select Ms. White because my interest area is early literacy for my research paper. Insight I gain CPS elementary students had a 2% increase on the ISAT. I think if parents, caregiver and teachers began early literacy with children from birth we will see a greater increase before children reach the benchmark grade.
- How these interviews may have influenced your decision about which area of interest and topics to choose for your research paper.I think there is a need in early literacy and I am going to focus my paper on this area. The three specific topics are print knowledge, emergent writing, and linguistic awareness.
- Questions I have for my colleagues related to my area of interest and/or three topic are:Do you think literacy should begin by immersing children in literacy-rich environment.
- Do you think these emergent skills will give children a solid foundation before he/she start school.
- Do you think babies learn to read as early as birth.
